Zoe & Robbie's Texas Wedding
There's a reason so many couples choose The Oaks at High Hill in Schulenburg, Texas: the moment you step onto the property, your eyes are drawn to the venue's breathtaking 175-year-old live oak tree. Serving as the centerpiece for outdoor ceremonies, the massive oak creates a setting that feels both grand and intimate. With its sprawling branches, organic shape, and generations of history woven into its roots, it embodies the kind of natural beauty that makes live oaks so beloved throughout Texas.
For Zoe and Robbie's wedding day, the tree became even more magical. Their florist wrapped the base of the trunk in lush floral arrangements that seemed to grow naturally from the oak itself. Watching the installation come together throughout the morning was incredible, and by ceremony time it felt like something out of a storybook.
While the ceremony tree may be the star of the show, it's only one part of what makes The Oaks at High Hill such a memorable wedding venue.
A Venue Designed for a Full Wedding Weekend
One of the things I loved most about The Oaks at High Hill was how thoughtfully the property is designed. Rather than feeling like a venue you simply arrive at for a few hours, it feels like a place where you can truly settle in and spend meaningful time with the people you love.
Zoe and Robbie rented several of the on-site accommodations for their wedding party, allowing everyone to stay together throughout the weekend. Friends gathered over coffee in the mornings, family members wandered between cottages, and there was a sense of connection that carried throughout the entire celebration.
The property itself is expansive without ever feeling overwhelming. Horses, longhorns, mature oak trees, and wide-open Texas skies create a peaceful atmosphere that makes it easy to forget the outside world entirely. Throughout the day, it often felt like we had the entire ranch to ourselves.
Getting Ready at The Oaks at High Hill
The bridal suite offered one of my favorite getting-ready spaces I've seen at a wedding venue.
A spacious loft overlooks the room below, complete with a long row of mirrors and plenty of space for hair, makeup, and all the excitement that unfolds during those final hours before the ceremony. Natural light pours into the space, creating a calm environment that photographs beautifully while still allowing everyone room to spread out and enjoy the morning.
As a filmmaker, I always appreciate venues that understand how important the beginning of the day is, and The Oaks at High Hill clearly does.
A Celebration Years in the Making
One of my favorite parts of Zoe and Robbie's wedding was witnessing the community that surrounded them.
As a professional volleyball player and member of the USA Women's National Team, Zoe has spent much of her life building relationships through the sport. Throughout the wedding weekend, it was impossible not to notice the deep friendships that had been formed over years of practices, road trips, championships, and seasons spent competing together around the world.
Many of Zoe's bridesmaids shared volleyball connections with her in some way. Some were former teammates from Texas, where they won a national championship together. Others had played professionally overseas alongside her during her time competing in Germany. Together, they created a bridal party filled with history, laughter, and an obvious sense of admiration for one another.
Several friends traveled internationally to celebrate with the couple, including teammates who made the journey from overseas. Watching everyone reconnect throughout the weekend was a reminder of how sports can create lifelong friendships that extend far beyond the game itself.
The volleyball connections continued throughout the celebration. Zoe's former University of Texas head coach served as the officiant, adding a deeply personal element to the ceremony. Later in the evening, former teammate and USA National Team standout Logan Eggleston shared words during the reception, bringing both laughter and heartfelt memories to the celebration.
Robbie's story brought another layer of international connection to the weekend. Originally from England and now working as an actor, Robbie is perhaps best known for portraying the teenage James Potter in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. His parents made the trip from the United Kingdom to celebrate the wedding, making the weekend especially meaningful.
Again and again throughout the day, there was a sense that this wasn't simply a gathering of friends and family—it was a gathering of people who had helped shape Zoe and Robbie's lives over many years. Watching those relationships come together in one place made the celebration feel even more meaningful.
The Ceremony Beneath the Live Oak
One detail I loved about Zoe and Robbie's wedding was the experience guests had from the moment they arrived. After parking in the venue's expansive gravel lot, they made their way toward the ceremony site along a quaint walkway that crosses a small creek. As guests approached, they were welcomed by the sound of a violinist playing live music, setting a tone that felt peaceful, elegant, and incredibly intentional.
Beneath the 175-year-old live oak tree, the rest of the four-piece string ensemble was tucked behind the ceremony seating, creating a soundtrack that seemed to blend seamlessly into the landscape. Having live music woven throughout the ceremony added so much emotion to the experience and felt perfectly suited to the natural beauty of the venue.

The tree feels timeless, grounding, and deeply connected to the land around it—a place that has undoubtedly witnessed countless stories over its lifetime and now holds a small piece of Zoe and Robbie's as well.
Golden Hour Across the Ranch
For couples who love natural, movement-filled portraits, The Oaks at High Hill offers no shortage of possibilities.
As the evening light softened, we explored different areas of the property for photos and video. Open fields, winding pathways, mature trees, and endless room to run, dance, and simply enjoy being together gave us so much variety without ever needing to leave the venue.
One of my favorite moments came on a freestanding swing chair tucked into the landscape. What started as a simple portrait idea quickly turned into laughter, movement, and some of the most genuine moments of the entire day.
These are often the memories couples end up cherishing most—the unscripted moments between the big events.
Cocktail Hour & Reception
Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the covered outdoor patio for cocktail hour.
The space offered plenty of shade, comfortable seating, lawn games, and an outdoor bar that kept everyone mingling and enjoying the evening. The layout felt effortless, giving guests room to move around while still feeling connected to the celebration.
The reception took place inside the venue's modern barn-style event space, complete with a spacious dance floor, elevated finishes, and a built-in bar area. While the venue can accommodate much larger celebrations, Zoe and Robbie's wedding demonstrated how beautifully the space can adapt to a more intimate gathering.
As the evening unfolded, stories, laughter, and heartfelt speeches filled the room. One of the most touching moments came when Robbie's mother spoke about traveling from England for the wedding and meeting Zoe's family. She shared how welcomed they had made her feel and how much peace it brought her knowing Robbie had found not only a partner, but a family who loved and cared for him so deeply.
Later in the evening, former Texas teammate and USA National Team standout Logan Eggleston added to the speeches, bringing laughter, memories, and another reminder of the remarkable community surrounding the couple.
With thoughtful draping, warm lighting, and a packed dance floor, the room felt inviting, energetic, and perfectly suited to the people inside it.
Why I Loved Filming at The Oaks at High Hill
As a wedding filmmaker, I pay attention not only to how a venue looks, but how it feels.
The Oaks at High Hill offers beautiful architecture, comfortable accommodations, stunning landscapes, and one of the most memorable ceremony locations I've encountered. But what stood out most was how naturally the entire day flowed from one space to the next.
Every part of the property seems designed to encourage connection—whether that's getting ready with your closest friends, gathering beneath a centuries-old oak tree, playing lawn games during cocktail hour, or dancing late into the night inside the reception hall.
For Zoe and Robbie, it created a wedding day that felt relaxed, intentional, and entirely their own.
And as the sun disappeared behind the trees and guests filled the dance floor, it was clear that The Oaks at High Hill had become more than just a venue for the day—it had become part of their story.
